We are about to embark on a series where the focus will be on basic Christianity, how we understand it, and what the implications are to us as individuals and as a church.
14 Feb 2010 – Dr Warwick Smith will present ‘Creation & the Fall’ (part 1 of 5).
- Dr Warwick Smith is a Christian and a scientist; and a world renown expert in seismology. I have heard it said that if the ground starts shaking and Warwick doesn't move then you might as well sit still and enjoy the ride. Science is a field where many question the application of the biblical account. We are being taken back to where it all began. Barb Gillon will be your host with music led by Rose Russell.

21 Feb 2010 - Anna Gillon with a focus on the 'Law' (part 2 of 5)
- Some people view Christianity as a set of rules. To put it in more traditional words ... 'Thou shalt do this, thou shalt not do that'. Is this what the law is really about in its application to our lives as Christians; Or is there an alternative perspective on how the biblical teaching of God’s word, the bible, should be applied? Anna Gillon, a lawyer practising in the local community will bring her insights on this topic. Barb Gillon will be your host with music led by Leath Powell. It will also be a Sunday where we take part in Communion.

28 Feb 2010 - Liz Eley on 'Grace'
- In NZ ‘Grace’ has regularly been a top 10 name for girls over the last decade. In fact between 2004 and 2009 it was numbers 9, 7, 7, 8, 10 and 12 link. Now let’s assume parents look at meaning of names at least to a certain extent when choosing them for their children. The first few baby name sites I visited were fairly limited but apparently it is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "favour; blessing" or a virtue name when referring to God's grace. If you look for the dictionary meaning this is expanded significantly but tends to follow the same thinking.
So what is God's grace and what is the meaning for us as Christians? Well you are all welcome to come along and find out when Liz Eley speaks to us this Sunday. Mike Wood will be your host and music will be lead by Leath Powell.
Incidentally I didn’t find it on the recent boys list in NZ, but against my expectation it did make the top 1000 for boys between 1880-1920 link. - Update - Audio and video of part of the service can be found at the following link
07 Mar 2010 - Celebrating Easter
- Today we take a break from our current series and consider the celebration of Easter. At the invitation of our church leadership we have an exciting visit from Paul Vink who over the last few years has been developing a celebration of easter that friends and family can join in a non-threatening environment based on Easter.

14 Mar 2010 - Liz Langham and 'Christian Living'
- If we surveyed both our Christian friends and those that are either indifferent to Christianity or strongly opposed, and asked them 'what is Christian living' what do you think the answers would be? Could we split the answer down the middle or would there be some crossover? Would any of them be absolutely correct or is it not possible to discern that level of stark contrast? This Sunday Liz Langham presents to us what Christian Living as part of this series on basic Christianity. Carey Fountain will be your host with music lead by Bill Hall.
21 Mar 2010 - Ken Edgecombe focuses on 'Future Hope'
